September is National Preparedness Month

9/9/2021 (Permalink)

September is National Preparedness Month. This is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year. The 2021 theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”

The first week of September is all about “Making a Plan”. Make sure to talk to your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during and after a disaster situation.

The second week of September is all about “Building a Kit”. Buy supplies that will last several days after a disaster for everyone living in your home. Don’t forget to consider the unique needs of each person or pet may have in the event that you have to evacuate quickly.

The third week of September focuses on “Low-Cost, No-Cost Preparedness”. It is important to know the risk of disasters in your area and check over your insurance coverage. Learn how to make your home or business stronger in the face of storms and other common hazards and act fast if you receive a local warning or alert.

The last week of September is about “Teaching Youth About Preparedness”. Talk to your kids about preparing for emergencies and what to do in case you are separated. Reassure them by providing information about how they can get involved.

Disasters Don’t Wait. Make Your Plan Today.
